His 1828 American Dictionary contained the greatest number of Biblical definitions given in any reference volume. Webster considered education "useless without the Bible." In this book, Webster gives an overview and shares his understanding of the Bible. Small, pocket sized dictionary with advertizsing. Interior clean binding tight. No dj (may not have been issued with one). Upper states the dictionary was "Specially prepared for J. H. Wilhelm, Ismay, Montana, Headquarters for Peters Weatherbird Solid Leather Shoes". The front and rear free end-papers advertise Peters Weatherbird Shoes. Ismay, Montana at one time had 23 saloons and a couple of churches, back when it catered to the cowboy trade. Last I knew it was an un-incorporated town of approx. 9 residents. This is probably a one of a kind advertising item.

I gave this book a fair rating for the following reasons; Leather boards are worn and stained, spine ends discolored at top and chipped and worn at bottom edge. Edges and corners worn, front board is loose but for a single binding string at center. Spine is coming loose at foredge, spine gilt is worn but readable, spine has cracking in the leather and some splitting. The contents are a lot better. All pages are intact and complete. At the rear, the last two blank pages with the endpaper are loose from the book. Rear pastedown has some bubbling and darkening, gutter at rear split but hanging on. Tissue intact over Webster engraving. Some old water staining at the foredge on the pages extending into the book about 1-1 1/2 inches. Pages have some wrinkling. So, rough on the outside and good on the inside. Very heavy book requires extra shipping.

Beige publishers cloth shows brown titling and detailing on front, dull gilt on red background on spine. Spots of soiling to cover, chipping to hinges, rubbing and wear to extremities. Textblock edges measure 5.1" between font and back covers. Edges are dyed red, liquid staining has caused fading to several spots along textblock edges and has caused red dye to bleed into margins of several pages. Letter tabs on pages show soiling, age toning to all pages, some more heavily than others. Textblock has separated from back strip, binding has loosened slightly between some signatures. Some text has faded but all remains legible. This book remains in overall Good condition and would make an excellent addition to any collection. ***Book is oversized and heavy and may require extra shipping***.

Frontis-portrait retains protective tissue that has shadowed and some wear. Back free endpaer is missing. Due to the large size and thickness of the book, it will require additional shipping.
