Known for his monumental painting and installations, the internationally celebrated artist Anselm Kiefer's works are marked by a constant questioning of history and collective memory. Born in Germany two months before the Nazi capitulation in 1945, Kiefer's reflections on post-war identity, loss, and shared experience, nourished by myths and literature, create an unparalleled breadth of imagery. The use of photography as both practice and source material is a little-known aspect of Kiefer's art that has played a central role throughout his career. This book presents over 130 works charting the artist's relationship with photography, and his investigations into what images reveal.

Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. Based on close archival research, Christian Weikop (main author and guest editor) uncovers unknown and exciting narratives, as well as artist networks, concerning this provocative 1970 exhibition, held at ECA. The author has previously considered the British press reception of SGA in an article for Tate Papers, but this Studies in Photography-EUP book publication goes far beyond that article and any other scholarship on the exhibition by taking into account (for the first time) the contributions of all 35 artists based in Dsseldorf, and incorporating testimony of individuals who were involved in this landmark exhibition, or who were later engaged in archive exhibitions or recreation projects. Weikop explores the formation of the exhibition in the context of a late 1960s culture of protests and occupations, and demonstrates that SGA was a pivotal 'Shock of the New' moment that would leave its mark on art education. This is the first publication to consider the formation and impact of the landmark exhibition Strategy: Get Arts (SGA), staged at Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) as part of the Edinburgh Festival in 1970 Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
