Paperback. 224 pp. Ills (partly in color). 22x14 cm. - This is an artist's book by Dutch conceptual artist Erik Wesselo, published in 2006. The title refers to the address in New York City where Wesselo lived from January 2001 to April 2002 - a period marked by the aftermath of the September 11 attacks. This context of urban upheaval and personal isolation profoundly influenced the work. The book is divided into two complementary sections: 1. Visual Section: This part includes Polaroids, drawings, letters, receipts, and other ephemera collected during Wesselo's time in New York. These materials are curated to evoke a narrative that transcends mere autobiography, capturing the alienation and solitude characteristic of urban life. 2 : Textual Section: Written by American artist and writer J.M. Edwards, this section presents a script inspired by Wesselo's experiences. Its cinematic quality offers a separate yet intertwined perspective on the themes of the visual section. In 56 Beaver St., the disappearing of the magic of the metropolis is tangible. The freedom that it can offer - being absorbed into anonymity with a future filled with plans - is replaced by an image of outcasts and people who have given up before their time, people who no longer cherish any hope. This book was made for them. The book's design, by Floor Koomen, features a double paperback binding. Condition : very good copy. ISBN 9789059730564. Keywords : ART, 9/11 artist books.
