"For eighty years this Sacramento volume has been a bonanza of information, much of it difficult to find elsewhere, and its more than 200 lithographs sharply detail the architect…ure, agricultural methods, dress, and modes of transportation of the 'elegant eighties' . also contains a delightful colored township map of the county, showing land grants, roads, railroads, ditches, and such little-remembered population clusters as Sebastopol, Union House Post Office, Richland, Wilson's, Buckeye, McConnells, Georgetown (now Franklin), Onisbo, Ashland, Sutterville (now swallowed up by Sacramento), and Emmaton" (from Ottley's introduction). Oblong quarto: 294 pp. with 238 illustrations, 8 two-page, as well as 2 color maps, 1 folding. Original black cloth binding, with gilt-stamped titles. A near fine copy in a moderately edgeworn dust jacket.
