Marbled edges well faded; marbled endpapers. Undated antiquarian ink gift inscription upon front flyleaf with long tear along spine edge; vertical crease to title page; printing error on page 3 of January 1845 issue with garbled text; light to mild foxing and toning to interior leaves; several leaves have tears and/or are unevenly cut at their fore-edges; pages 263-266 of December 1845 issue detached and now-laid-in; large loss to bottom of rear flyleaf. Most of the b/w and color plates retain their tissue guards. Double column text throughout. Features a collection of literary articles, short stories, book reviews, poetry, music scores and lyrics, etc. by numerous authors (none of this volume's issues feature contributions by Edgar Allan Poe who published two tales in "Columbian Magazine" in August and October 1844 and a single poem in March 1848). Single chromolithographic floral pattern plate preceding January 1845 issue with remaining eight color plates being hand-colored images of contemporary women's fashion; b/w plates show religious or historical themed images.
