It examines the results by comparing the speakers' levels of non-rhoticity and broad a to the factor of their gender.On the one hand, I decided to examine the features of non-rhoticity and broad a, because these features are most prominent for this particular dialect of American English. 'Two major New England shibboleths are the 'dropping' of post-vocalic r(as in [ka:] car and [ba:n] barn) and the low central vowel [ ] in the BATH class,words like aunt and glass.' (Carver, 1987: 21)On the other hand, I have recognized that there is a lack of examination of the mentioned features especially with regard to the speakers' gender and if these results would be conform with the sociolinguistic statement of women showing a strongertendency towards standard or prestige variants in their speech communities. (Schönweitz, 2001: 2)As the basis of this analysis I decided to use speech data of the two main characters of the American television series Family Guy, which is known for being presented in the typical Eastern New England (ENE) dialect.The structure of my paper is divided into the following sections: an overview of the topic as well as the two features under examination, a description of the methodology used in this study and a section of the results which will take a look at my findings. Afterwards, a conclusion follows with implications on further research.

(Auster, 1985; 3)Paul Auster's anti-detective novel City of Glass is the story of a man, whose life accidentally angles off. More and more, he blunders into the complexity of a criminal case in search of the significant principle. Obsessively, he adapts his action to the stranger until he finally loses hisself.Although Auster's novel, which is based on the nature and the function of language, is rather non-visual, Paul Karasik and David Mazzucchelli succeeded in adopting it into a graphic novel that is more than just a translation from one genre into another. They managed to create a visual language full of metaphors, symbols and icons that add a new layer of meaning to the story.This is the reason why I decided to pick City of Glass: The graphic novel as the basis of my term paper. This thesis will argue that a graphic adaptation of a literary work can be more than just an illustrated copy of a superior novel and worth an analysis onits own. Furthermore, I will take a deeper look at the visual language, specifically, the visual metaphors and symbols, which build up the graphic novel and how these finding can be adapted into learning situations.First of all, I will give a summary of City of Glass: the novel followed by a definition of the anti-detective genre with the intention to point out, that the visual language of City of Glass: the graphic novel reflects this genre. Afterwards, a survey of thegraphic novel as well as an analysis of its structure and composition and its visual language and symbolism is given. A brief outline of how these findings can be useful in teaching and learning situations will precede the conclusion.

Above all, this dinner scene ismarked by a lack of understanding between the characters and the unability of each one to change into the others' perspective. The juxtaposition of the figures finally ends up in a collaps of the conversation and a monologisation of their dialogues.This lack of understanding is based on the different cultural backgrounds of each character. Everyone is part of a different society that is based on different norms and values which eliminates the possibility of a change of the character's perspective.The question, my term paper is based on, is how far feminist criticism is valid regarding the tension between culture and feminism. In this respect, it is necessary to examine the cultural backgrounds and the respective existence of a feminist'smovement in the cultures of the characters.A valid feministic judgement on the characters can only be given when they are analysed in the light of their culture and afterwards opposed to each other. Therefore, the literature I took into account focuses on historical information of the characters' cultures, especially women's cultural history. Furthermore, I analysed literature on Caryl Churchill as well as women dramatists in Britain and the feministic movement.I examined how far each woman of the dinner scene can be valuated as a feminist or as having a feministic attitude and often, this feministic attitude is not a general characteristic but rather a characteristic which is connected to a certain domain of their culture. Hence, I extracted three areas in which this tension between the characters' cultures and their feministic attitude are surfaced: their relation to men,their family and domestic life and their working life. Yet, instead of examining each character in each category, I concentrated on those characters that stood out in theirbehaviour and opposed them to each other.

One of the reasons for the enormous success of 'Pamela' might have been that more and more women got interested in literature, especially in romantic novels or religious works. All in all, the era was dominated by a commercialization of literature, the rise of the realism and of the moralistic-didactic intentions, which implicated a change of the recipients of literature. Moreover, it entailed a decline of the aristocratic ideals and a rise of the lower middle class and its moral concepts . Also characteristic for that era, as already mentioned, are the so-called 'conduct books', that aimed to educate the reader in the comportment in social life.Richardson, who was part of the lower middle class, with his novel 'Pamela' is completely in step with the social spirit of that time. The topic of a young girl who is anxious of keeping her virtue is not new, but Richardson added this attribute to a servant girl, which is, even for that time, quite exceptional. 'Servant girls (.) constituted a fairly important part of the reading public, and they found it particularly difficult to marry. (.) Richardson's heroine symbolised the aspirations of all the women in the reading public who were subject to the difficulty of getting married.' Fielding, as a part of the aristocracy, criticized and satirized the over-morality that was presented in Richardson's novel and, furthermore, mocks Richardson's style in various way. Yet, all in all Fielding considers Richardsons moralistic and chaste point of view as an ambigious and even dissembling furtiveness.

Die Implementation von nachhaltigen Themen in die Lehrpläne ist für alle Ausbildungsgänge angestrebt und befindet sich momentan in der Umsetzung. So soll sich auch der im Folgenden dargestellte Unterrichtsentwurf mit dem Thema der nachhaltigen Entwicklung befassen. Der Unterrichtsentwurf richtet sich dabei an die Klassen der dualen Ausbildung der Mediengestalter/innen für Digital und Printmedien und geht mit Hilfe kooperativer Methoden auf verschiedene Themen in Bezug auf nachhaltige Entwicklung ein, wie u. a. artgerechte Tierzucht, Massentierhaltung und ethisches und moralisches Verhalten gegenüber anderen Lebewesen. Die geplante Doppelstunde gilt dabei als eine Einführung in die Problematik der Nachhaltigkeit. Im Anschluss daran soll von den Lernenden ein Projekt in Bezug auf nachhaltige Entwicklung bearbeitet werden, welches ebenfalls im Folgenden kurz skizziert wird. Zuerst werde ich dabei die Rahmenbedingungen in einer Sachanalyse des Unterrichtsthemas darstellen, sowie anschließend meine didaktischen Überlegungen und den konkret geplanten Unterrichtsverlauf vorstellen. (Schröder, Thielen, 2009)Anfang der 70er Jahre ist der Bildungsgang des Berufsvorbereitungsjahres (BVJ) in Deutschland in verschiedenen Formen eingeführt worden, um als ein bildungspolitisches Instrument den Strukturveränderungen auf dem Arbeits- und Ausbildungsmarkt zu begegnen. Seit seiner Einführung stiegen die Schülerzahlen stetig an. Trotz dessen muss sich das BVJ konsequenter Kritik stellen. Kann es seiner ursprüngliche Intention, nämlich Jugendliche ohne Ausbildungsvertrag in das duale System einzugliedern, bzw. deren Chancen auf einen erfolgreichen Übergang zu steigern, heute noch gerecht werden Wie sieht die Situation auf dem gegenwärtigen Arbeits- und Ausbildungsmarkt aus und ist das Konzept des BVJ inzwischen zu veraltet als das es den momentanen Herausforderungen noch gerecht werden könnte Woran lässt sich beurteilen, ob das BVJ Jugendlichen mit besonderem Förderbedarf tatsächlich erfolgreiche Hilfestellung bietet oder ob es stattdessen zu einem Mittel geworden ist, unbequeme und schwierige Jugendliche auszugliedern Diesen Fragen soll in folgender Ausarbeitung auf den Grund gegangen werden. Die Institution Schule wird immer selbständiger, doch diese Selbständigkeit verlangt auch nach mehr Verantwortung der einzelnen Akteure, gerade wenn es darum geht dem Beispiel der Wirtschaft nach ständiger Qualitätsentwicklung zu folgen.Zuerst muss entschlossen werden, für welches Instrument der Evaluation man sich entscheidet, natürlich immer auf Basis des Wissens, was genau mit der Evaluation bezweckt wird und welche Ziele man verfolgt. In meiner Arbeit möchte ich darauf eingehen, um was für ein Instrument es sich bei dem SEIS-Projekt handelt und nach welcher Methode es vorgeht, aber auch, welche Reichweite das Projekt hat und inwiefern es die Erwartungen, welche an SEIS gestellt werden, auch erfüllt.Ich beginne mit einer Einführung in die schulische Selbstevaluation, sowie dem SEIS-Instrument als besonderes und gehe über zu dem Aufbau und den Funktionen, die es umfasst. (Auster, 1985; 3)Paul Auster's anti-detective novel City of Glass is the story of a man, whose life accidentally angles off. More and more, he blunders into the complexity of a criminal case in search of the significant principle. Obsessively, he adapts his action to the stranger until he finally loses hisself.Although Auster's novel, which is based on the nature and the function of language, is rather non-visual, Paul Karasik and David Mazzucchelli succeeded in adopting it into a graphic novel that is more than just a translation from one genre into another. They managed to create a visual language full of metaphors, symbols and icons that add a new layer of meaning to the story.This is the reason why I decided to pick City of Glass: The graphic novel as the basis of my term paper. This thesis will argue that a graphic adaptation of a literary work can be more than just an illustrated copy of a superior novel and worth an analysis onits own. Furthermore, I will take a deeper look at the visual language, specifically, the visual metaphors and symbols, which build up the graphic novel and how these finding can be adapted into learning situations.First of all, I will give a summary of City of Glass: the novel followed by a definition of the anti-detective genre with the intention to point out, that the visual language of City of Glass: the graphic novel reflects this genre. Afterwards, a survey of thegraphic novel as well as an analysis of its structure and composition and its visual language and symbolism is given. One of the reasons for the enormous success of 'Pamela' might have been that more and more women got interested in literature, especially in romantic novels or religious works. All in all, the era was dominated by a commercialization of literature, the rise of the realism and of the moralistic-didactic intentions, which implicated a change of the recipients of literature. Moreover, it entailed a decline of the aristocratic ideals and a rise of the lower middle class and its moral concepts . Also characteristic for that era, as already mentioned, are the so-called 'conduct books', that aimed to educate the reader in the comportment in social life.Richardson, who was part of the lower middle class, with his novel 'Pamela' is completely in step with the social spirit of that time. The topic of a young girl who is anxious of keeping her virtue is not new, but Richardson added this attribute to a servant girl, which is, even for that time, quite exceptional. 'Servant girls (.) constituted a fairly important part of the reading public, and they found it particularly difficult to marry. (.) Richardson's heroine symbolised the aspirations of all the women in the reading public who were subject to the difficulty of getting married.' Fielding, as a part of the aristocracy, criticized and satirized the over-morality that was presented in Richardson's novel and, furthermore, mocks Richardson's style in various way. Everyone is part of a different society that is based on different norms and values which eliminates the possibility of a change of the character's perspective.The question, my term paper is based on, is how far feminist criticism is valid regarding the tension between culture and feminism. In this respect, it is necessary to examine the cultural backgrounds and the respective existence of a feminist'smovement in the cultures of the characters.A valid feministic judgement on the characters can only be given when they are analysed in the light of their culture and afterwards opposed to each other. Therefore, the literature I took into account focuses on historical information of the characters' cultures, especially women's cultural history. Furthermore, I analysed literature on Caryl Churchill as well as women dramatists in Britain and the feministic movement.I examined how far each woman of the dinner scene can be valuated as a feminist or as having a feministic attitude and often, this feministic attitude is not a general characteristic but rather a characteristic which is connected to a certain domain of their culture. Hence, I extracted three areas in which this tension between the characters' cultures and their feministic attitude are surfaced: their relation to men,their family and domestic life and their working life. Yet, instead of examining each character in each category, I concentrated on those characters that stood out in theirbehaviour and opposed them to each other. 24 pp. Englisch.

Der Unterrichtsentwurf richtet sich dabei an die Klassen der dualen Ausbildung der Mediengestalter/innen für Digital und Printmedien und geht mit Hilfe kooperativer Methoden auf verschiedene Themen in Bezug auf nachhaltige Entwicklung ein, wie u. a. artgerechte Tierzucht, Massentierhaltung und ethisches und moralisches Verhalten gegenüber anderen Lebewesen. Die geplante Doppelstunde gilt dabei als eine Einführung in die Problematik der Nachhaltigkeit. Im Anschluss daran soll von den Lernenden ein Projekt in Bezug auf nachhaltige Entwicklung bearbeitet werden, welches ebenfalls im Folgenden kurz skizziert wird. Die Institution Schule wird immer selbständiger, doch diese Selbständigkeit verlangt auch nach mehr Verantwortung der einzelnen Akteure, gerade wenn es darum geht dem Beispiel der Wirtschaft nach ständiger Qualitätsentwicklung zu folgen.Zuerst muss entschlossen werden, für welches Instrument der Evaluation man sich entscheidet, natürlich immer auf Basis des Wissens, was genau mit der Evaluation bezweckt wird und welche Ziele man verfolgt. The topic of a young girl who is anxious of keeping her virtue is not new, but Richardson added this attribute to a servant girl, which is, even for that time, quite exceptional. ¿Servant girls (.) constituted a fairly important part of the reading public, and they found it particularly difficult to marry. Richardson¿s heroine symbolised the aspirations of all the women in the reading public who were subject to the difficulty of getting married.¿Fielding, as a part of the aristocracy, criticized and satirized the over-morality that was presented in Richardson¿s novel and, furthermore, mocks Richardson¿s style in various way.
