Biography and anthology of letters of English author and poet Richard Le Gallienne (1866 - 1947) was an English author and poet. 580 pgs. 25 chapters in 4 parts: Book I, The Seed Bed (1866 - 1891); II. The Golden Harvest (1891 - 1903); III, The Long Drought (1903 - 1926); and IV, The Winnowing (1927 - 1947), followed by a Catalogue of the Writings of Richard Le Gallienne and a Chronology. 1897 Le Gallienne produced a verse translation of The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám , subtitled "a paraphrase from several literal translations", in 1897. Some example quatrains include: "Look not above, there is no answer there/ Pray not, for no one listens to your prayer/ Near is as near to God as any Far/ And Here is just the same deceit as There", and, ""Did God set grapes a-growing, do you think/ And at the same time make it sin to drink?/ Give thanks to Him who foreordained it thus--/ Surely He loves to hear the glasses clink!".
