Incudes, Preface by Lord Aberdeen, Appendix (argument on orgins of English Pointed Style), and 9 chapters. Steel engraved bookplate of Cholmeley of Brandsby. Prelims., have some water-staining and engraved frontis (Rheims Cathedral) has left minor staining print-through on title page. Ten engraved plates are all water stained on bottom half. All the text, however, is remarkably clean. Binding is sound and tight, but corners are worn, and edges and bottom of boards rubbed. Spine expertly rebacked in leather, but this also has minor water stain.Close Vg for date.
