Aggiungi al carrelloCloth. Condizione: Good Only. First edition. This uncommon, first thus edited and titled edition of the poems of Sir Thomas Wyatt in two volumes, with illustrations, an introduction, and commentary. The first thus edited and titled edition of the poems of Sir Thomas Wyatt in two volumes. With 11 monochrome plate illustrations acr…oss the two volumes, including a facsimile letter by Wyatt; a reproduction of the Holbein portrait; and a facsimile frontispiece of Leland's "Naeniae" as the frontispiece to Volume I. Collated complete.Includes a six-page table of first lines from the Egerton MS., with approximate dates of composition and the various sources, at the rear of Volume I.With an errata slip tipped in between pp. [xvi] and xvii of Volume I, and between pp. xxii and xxiii of Volume II.Uncommon.Sir Thomas Wyatt was a sixteenth-century English politician and lyric poet who is often credited with introducing the sonnet to English literature, and whose most famous verse includes 'Whoso List to Hunt', 'They Flee From Me', and 'What No, Perdie'. His family, and in particular his father, had a tumultuous relationship with the English royals, with the latter having been both a Privy Councillor to Henry VII and been tortured and imprisoned by Richard III. These two volumes offer a reader both an excellent survey of Wyatt's poetic works, from his satires to his sonnets, as well as an illuminating commentary and an appendix of the poet's Italian sources. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, sound with significant staining and resultant discolouration, heaviest to the rear board of Volume II, and to the front board and backstrip of Volume II, as well as some minor handling marks. Slight bumping to the heads and tails of the spines and the extremities, causing some splitting of and loss to the cloth. Hinges starting. Internally, sections of the binding are strained. Pages are generally bright and clean barring light age toning, the odd marginal spot or mark, and some significant pencil annotations e.g. to pp. 265r-272v of Volume II and pp. 196 of Volume I. Good Only. None (illustratore). book.
