Alistair Cameron Crombie (1915 Ð 1996) was an Australian historian of science who began his career as a zoologist, contributing to the research on competition in species. William Persehouse Delisle Wightman (1899 Ð 1983) spent years on research and says in the introduction, 'The lengthy and careful examination of every one of the books listed, however, put me (or so I have dared to hope) in a position whence a new view of the course of scientific thought in the Renaissance could be gained.' Upper cover of volume 2 a little rubbed, otherwise a very good set. Slight rubbing, faint mottling at edges otherwise very good.

Military aerodrome later temporary civil aerodrome, RNAS Aeroplane School, RFC | RAF Training Depot Station, 138 Squadron (Avro 504Bs & 504Es Later Bristol F.2 Fighters). The first mention of this aerodrome is on 15th May 1915 when Flight Commander Hyde-Thomson (RNAS) was awarded Pilot Certificate No. 1245 flying a Bristol Biplane from here. He also listed flying a Wight Seaplane from CALSHOT. Between 1915 and 1919 it was used to train around 1,000 pilots before they were sent to Europe, shortly afterwards the aerodrome closed in 1919. This 'in-house' magazine named 'The Chingflier' had a short history and was published between October 1916 to February 1918. Contains 20 (including the covers) printed pages of text with monochrome illustrations and photographs throughout, including full-page cartoons specially drawn for 'The Chingflier' by E. D. Cooke, A. M. Bingham, and Charles E. Turner. Staples rusty, repaired tears to the edges of the covers down the spine and in Good condition. Member of the P.B.F.A. AVIATION & AERONAUTICS.

First edition of this nicely illustrated catalogue touting the steam locomotives produced and exhibited by the historic Pittsburgh Locomotive Works during the Columbian Exposition. The locomotives featured included an experimental large Passenger Compound Locomotive, the Mogul Compound Freight Locomotive for the Columbus, Hocking Valley & Toledo Railway; a Freight Locomotive and Tender for the Cincinnati, Hamilton & Dayton RR, as well as a narrow gauge four-wheel saddle tank locomotive engine. Founded in 1865 by Andrew Carnegie and Thomas Miller, the company quickly grew supplying quality large locomtovies for the Bltimroe & Ohio, Acheson, Topeka & Santa Fe, Manhattan Elevated, and the Union Pacific thriving until 1901 when it was consolidated into the American Locomotive Co.
