Royal octavo (9 1/2" x 6 3/4") bound in original brown buckram with black lettering to spine and front cover. First edition. The author was Chicago newspaperman John F Finerty (1846-1908). The manuscript was preserved many years by his daughter-in-law, Mrs John F Finerty, Jr, who resides in Mexico. Editing and annotations were provided by Wilbert H Timmons of The University of Texas at El Paso. The result is an unusual book - one which provides a contemporary reaction to Mexico in 1879, some judgments revised twenty-five years later, and all published for the first time ninety-six years after the author observed the events. Condition: Jacket spine sunned, corners and spine ends chipped with 1/4" loss to spine head, closed edge tears else a very good to fine copy in a very good jacket.
