Spinal cord injuries like these are rare, and documented cases with long-term follow-ups even more so. Therefore, this book expands upon a limited body of medi…cal literature, providing valuable information for neuroscientists and neurologists alike. First, the author provides the history of a 38-year-old woman who fell and broke her back as a young girl. As a result of her injury, she experienced urinary retention and fecal incontinence, and ultimately suffered loss of sensation in her legs and feet. The author's second case study concerns a 40-year-old woman whose symptoms primarily affected her bladder and urethra. Her condition hindered her ability to urinate, leading to urinary tract infections. She also experienced persistent numbness in her buttocks and genitals, and an inability to feel sexual arousal. The third case considers a 28-year-old man who fell as a child and complained of severe back pain. He later developed foot deformities, which prevented him from walking. The author treats his condition surgically, and his symptoms subsided. The fourth case concerns a 57-year-old shepherd who gradually developed back pain and stiffness. He experienced urinary and fecal incontinence, priapism, and erectile dysfunction. The author determined that the patient suffered from an aneurysm of the hypogastric artery, leading to compression of the cauda equina. The fifth and final case study examines a 42-year-old man who developed severe pain and paralysis in his lower extremities after being exposed to extreme cold. He experienced urinary retention, but his condition improved gradually. These case studies contribute to a deeper understanding of the complex relationships between spinal cord injuries and the neurological symptoms they cause.
