Not only the immense mountain ranges, gigantic craters, bottomless pits and clefts but many strange objects, unknown on the earth, are described in this book in language that everyone can understand. Wilkins, the leading authority on the Moon, [was] Director of the British Astronomical Association (Lunar Section) and spent sixteen years preparing what is now universally acknowledged as the standard map of the Moon. In these pages, Wilkins takes the reader to the eyepieces of some of the largest telescopes in the world and illustrates his descriptions with drawings, maps, and photographs, most of which were specially made for this book, before ending with a survey of evidence of lunar changes and possible forms of life.
