Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Two artists, two completely different approaches, but one abiding passion - to celebrate the natural bounty to be found in the floodplains, swamps, savannas and woodlands of northern Australia. Mulkun Wirrpanda and John Wolseley, her adopted wwa (brother), have created a powerful body of works depicting many of the edible plants of north-east Arnhem Land.I made this painting after eating bundjuu [bush orange] . I was thinking about how we used to eat when I was a child . I was thinking about nowadays . and about the rubbish that our children eat.And so Mulkun Wirrpanda, a senior elder of the Dhudi-Djapu clan, resolved to paint the traditional food plants of her Yolu community to safeguard this knowledge for future generations. The suite of bark paintings she created is the subject of this lavishly illustrated catalogue for the National Museum of Australia's new exhibition, Midawarr/Harvest: The Art of Mulkun Wirrpanda and John Wolseley. Providing a natural counterpoint to these works is a vast and beautifully detailed scroll by renowned landscape painter John Wolseley. The supporting text draws on the wealth of Yolu botanical knowledge, describing the food and medicinal plants featured in the paintings and how they are collected, prepared and used. Two artists, two completely different approaches, but one abiding passion - to celebrate the natural bounty to be found in the floodplains, swamps, savannas and woodlands of northern Australia. Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the connection between degree-conferring institutions and state supervision, particularly in medicine. It compares current laissez-faire attitudes to more proactive oversight by state bodies. An examination of European models is used to support the argument for stricter regulation within the United States. The author argues that the prestige of American degrees would improve if a uniform standard for awarding them were nationally implemented to reduce the current variability which has allowed diploma mills and degree-selling institutions to flourish. The work exposes the shortcomings of a system which equates state control with state responsibility for awarding degrees, explaining why this is a false equivalency. Among the main themes of the book is the assertion that state supervision is compatible with the protection of academic freedoms and diversity of standards provided it is implemented fairly and without bias or special interests. The author concludes by proposing that regulation would encourage healthy competition between medical schools, reduce the risks to both students and the public and foster greater trust in the integrity of medical degrees. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

The Sydney Olympics in 2000 helped draw the world's attention to the quality of art and music being made by Aboriginal communities in Australia today. This book documents that creativity; traditional and contemporary painting, printmaking, sculpture, video and photography. The publication focuses in part the role that women have played recently in generating some of the most memorable contemporary art inspired by the archetypal idea of the Dream Time. (BT#4).
