Vragen zoals hoe de Egyptenaren leefden, hun inkomsten en belastingen, hun kleding en de voorwerpen in hun huizen, evenals de invloed van Grieken en Romeinen op de Egyptische cultuur, staan centraal. Ook de rol van tempels en het voorspellen van de toekomst worden onderzocht. De tentoonstelling richt zich op het dagelijkse leven in zowel steden als op het platteland. Het eerste deel biedt een algemeen overzicht van de geschiedenis, het bestuur, de economie, de leefomstandigheden en religie van het Romeinse Egypte. Het tweede deel bevat de tentoonstellingscatalogus met gedetailleerde beschrijvingen van de getoonde voorwerpen, waarbij dezelfde thema's aan bod komen in een licht gewijzigde volgorde. Na elke objectbeschrijving is er een bibliografie die verwijst naar eerdere publicaties en achtergrondliteratuur over de objectsoort.
