This copy, possibly a later printing of the first, published by Lane & Tippett. 16 mo. 208 pages. Head, heel and edge, worn and chipped. Boards coming loose from text block/signatures, though still hanging on by a thread (literally). Several minor stains in text. Distributed to children (!) This copy signed in pencil "To Violet from Mama", and Also inscribed: No2 Union Sunday Shool Dist No. 8" Date is not on title page, but copyright is dated 1842, with no other dates. Ships from Dinkytown in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Bound in full brown leather with gilt lettering against a black background on the spine; this boards are scuffed on the edges and there is a chip missing from the bottom of the spine; the leather hinges have cracked with the rear board nearly detached, but still holding. The interior is clean except for previous owner's name and purchase information in an early hand on front fly. The text is clean and unmarked, with subtle pages that have light scattered foxing and toning. NOT ex-library. Overall, a good solid copy in original binding. Illustrated frontis. Rare.
