A remarkable man, a naturalist and outdoorsman, physician, Civil War veteran, college geology professor, yet perhaps best known for his efforts to help found the Sierra Club he served as its second President (following John Muir) and to develop the John Muir Trail. More recently, his memory has been compromised by his history as a slaveholder and his espousal of racist beliefs. Near fine condition, a very clean and unworn copy, no owner names.
