Prima edizione
Soft cover. Condizione: Collectible-Good. First Edition. 522 pages; illustrations; rebound in brown paper wrapper, with original printed portions laid down on the new cover (6 x 8 1/4 inch). This is the first business directory issued about the Canal Zone. The advertisements cover businesses from hotels to cigar shops which is blended in between the history of the region and related subjects. Since no one could own land or import products under the Treaty of Panama and the United States, the 'Commissary' was controlled by the United States which dominated business within the Canal Zone. The Zone used a two tier pay system for its employees - The Gold Roll for Americans (Gold) and the Silver Roll for non-Americans (Silver). The work also contains 'Directory of Panama Government, Isthmian Canal Commission, and Panama Railroad Officials' pages 467-476; 'Classified Business Directory of the City of Panama' pages 477-504; 'Classified Business Directory of the City of Colon' pages 504-513, with a section on Chinese Establishments; 'Business Directory of the Canal Zone' pages 513-518. A good rebound copy.
