Including, also, an account in detail of the daily disbursements, hotel bills, railroad fare, cabs, sight-seeing, etc., showing what was enjoyed and what it costs". With a gift inscription signed by the author. A truly fascinating account of a traveller's experience in the late nineteenth century, offering insights into how others saw us. You might think, when you read the section on railways, that little has changed for the better on British railways since 1875- or that if they once did, they have come full circle back to the situation of the 1870s. Condition: Unfortunately this book has two significant areas of damage, so buy it to read and enjoy, until a better copy comes along. Two separate pages have had an expenses table cut out and then clumsily taped back (see photographs). The boards are rubbed but sound, the text block sound, and there is just occasional foxing and age-tanning, especially to the prelims. Without the page-slicing, the volume would be classified as good to very good.

The author argues that the mind is composed of particles of substance that have the quality of sentience, similar to how atoms have the quality of energy. This theory suggests that the mind and body are inextricably linked, with the mind being the conscious experience of the soul. The book delves into the nature of consciousness, the relationship between mind and matter, and the persistence of the soul after death. By drawing on scientific principles and philosophical concepts, this book challenges conventional notions of the mind and offers a provocative perspective on the nature of human existence. This book delves into the profound questions of human existence, exploring the nature of the soul and the possibility of life after death. Rooted in the scientific understanding of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the author embarks on a captivating journey, drawing upon concepts such as ether, electricity, and magnetism to unravel the mysteries of consciousness and the spiritual realm. The central theme revolves around the idea that the soul is not merely an abstract concept but a material entity composed of a refined substance akin to ether. This ethereal body, the author posits, interacts with the physical world through the forces of will, love, and moral purity, ultimately ensuring its continued existence beyond the confines of mortal life. By examining historical figures like Napoleon and Pitt, the author illustrates the potent influence of personal magnetism and willpower, suggesting a connection between mental and material forces. Through engaging prose and insightful observations, the book challenges conventional notions of spirituality and the afterlife. The author's exploration of psychic phenomena and the interconnectedness of all minds offers a thought-provoking perspective on the human experience, leaving readers with a sense of wonder and a renewed appreciation for the enduring power of the soul.
