This text, prepared by Bell Telephone Laboratories for Western Electric Co., contains a series of essays on the theory, properties, design principles, application, and characteristics of transistors under development in the 1950s. Included among the various authors is William Shockley, inventor of the junction transistor, who won the 1956 Nobel Prize for Physics alongside Bell Labratory scientists John Bardeen and Walter Brattain.
