Paperback. Condizione: New. Language: English. About The Book: The Animate and the Inanimate by William James Sidis is a speculative scientific work exploring the nature of life, matter, and the universe. Sidis proposes that the cosmos contains both positive and negative energy regions, operating under opposing thermodynamic laws. He suggests that life originates in "negative entropy" zones and challenges conventional ideas of time, space, and cosmic evolution. Blending physics, cosmology, and philosophy, the book presents an imaginative, unconventional theory about the origins of life and the structure of the universe. About The Author: William James Sidis (18981944) was an American child prodigy known for extraordinary abilities in mathematics and languages. Entering Harvard at 11, he gained fame for his intellect but later withdrew from public life. He wrote extensively under pseudonyms, pursued private studies, and became a significant figure in debates on gifted children and privacy. The Title 'The Animate And The Inanimate written/authored/edited by William James Sidis', published in the year 2025. The ISBN 9789375488354 is assigned to the Paperback version of this title. Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Hardcover, Blue Cloth, TEG. 1st. 8vo - over 7?" - 9?" tall. SCARCE: A very good example of this rare tome on Passaconaway. Dk. Blue Bds with Gilt Titles. 343 pp with 16 Full Page Illustrations-(Photos of the area). Former owner name on the inside of the FC and same on upper corner of the rear end paper. All else clean, unmarked. This is an odd one as there is no publisher listed on the spine (ALL other examples I have seen over the years have 'BADGER' in gilt on the spine foot. It is also about 1/4" taller than others, has untrimmed bottom page edges and the title page is mountad askew by nearly 1/4" (tilted to the right), additionally the binding cloth and gilt titles are of a lesser quality. I think this may be a counterfit printed sometime in the early 1930's, or perhaps there were unbound copies left over from the original publisher which were subsequently bound-up, leaving the Badger name off of the new boards, and sold. Either way there are very few of these, I have not seen another in my 40+ years of collecting. NOTE: I have done much research on this title over the past few months and it has quite a history. According to many sources it was actually written by William James Sidis the great child prodigy. This can be verified through several online sites such as The Official Sidis Archival Site and several others. However there are some who say there is evidence to the contrary, I am one of them. I have met folks who know the lineal descendants of CH. E. Beals and they indeed proclaim their relative to be the author, but. they also elude to the distinct possibility that the story actually came from W. J. Sidis who was a friend of the family during that time in Conway, NH. Sidis was well-known for psudonyms, perhaps he just decided (with Beals consent) to use the Beals name instead of his own as the author. After all this time who really knows? And either way it is a teriffic book on Passaconaway and quite scarce in First Edition. This example has a very faint number ghost on the spine and 2 dewey numbers in pen in the upper corner of the front fep (blank end paper) , no other marks are noted. Faux dust wrapper included in original chipped condition.

Hardcover. Condizione: Good +. Hardcover. This 1924 printing of Boris Sidis' first major work, introduced by his Harvard mentor William James, comes from the personal library of "The Expert on Experts," Anders Ericsson (1947-2020), the late cognitive psychologist known for his influential work on deliberate practice and expert performance. A pioneering force in pscyhopathology, founder of both the New York State Psychopathic Institute and the Journal of Abnormal Psychology, Boris Sidis (1867?1923) was an influential Ukrainian-American psychologist and philosopher of education of the early 20th century, as well as the father of child prodigy William James Sidis. Having fled pogroms and political persecution under the Russian Empire, Sidis sought insight into human behavior, making particular contributions in studies of hypnoid/hypnotic states, religious mania, mob frenzy, and group psychology. 7 5/8" X 5 1/8". x, 386pp, plus page of publisher's ads. Bound in blue cloth over boards, with spine lettered in gilt.
