The Volume is in Very Good Condition bound in modern half-brown morocco over cloth boards, with the spine divided into six compartments by five raised bands, with green morocco letter-pieces in the second and fourth compartments from the top. Externally the binding is relatively new, and generally free of scuffing. Internally the leaves are generally clean and amply margined, being uncut, with some milf foxing and light toning throughout. The Volume is Complete in All Respects The volume is paginated as follows: [9]-189, [i]-xxiii. The volume collates as follows: [A]-2C4, 2D2. The volume measures about 23.5 cm. By 14.5 cm. By 2 cm. Each leaf measures about 230 mm. By 140 mm. Of Peter Bayley Williams. Peter Bayley Williams was the son of Peter Williams, a Welsh Calvinist Methodist clergyman and biblical commentator, and was born in Llandyfaelog, Carmarthenshire, west Wales. After being educated at the grammar school in Carmarthen, he studied at the University of Oxford, matriculating from Jesus College, Oxford in 1785 and graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Christ Church, Oxford in 1790. He was ordained in 1788 and served in Eastleach Martin (Gloucestershire), Swinbrook and Burford (both in Oxfordshire) before becoming rector of Llanrug and Llanberis in Caernarfonshire, north Wales, holding these posts until his death on 22 November 1836. His son, Henry Bayley Williams, later became rector of Llanrug and Llanberis. In addition to his parish duties, Williams wrote for journals and assisted both young and more established writers with historical information for their work. He copied several manuscripts of medieval poems, but his antiquarian work was not highly regarded. He contributed to The Tourist's Guide to the County of Carnarvon and established the first Sunday school in the county, at Llanrug in 1793. More Images and/or Binding Spin Available.
