Literarische Werke…werden als historische Dokumente des gesellschaftlichen Diskurses betrachtet, die in ihrer Tiefendimension Rückschlüsse auf die kollektive psychische Befindlichkeit ihrer Leserinnen und Leser zulassen. Durch die Analyse eines großen Korpus von literarischen Texten, die nicht nach thematischen Gesichtspunkten, sondern nach ihrer Relevanz und Kanonisierung im damaligen Literatursystem, in der Presse und in Bildungsinstitutionen ausgewählt wurden, wird dargestellt, aus welchen typischen Elementen sich der Diskurs zusammensetzt. Dabei zeigt sich zweierlei: 1. Entgegen landläufiger Meinung war der Nationalsozialismus von Beginn an das vorherrschende Thema. 2. Die kritische Auseinandersetzung, mit der man heute die Nachkriegsliteratur pauschal verbindet, setzte erst in den 50er Jahren ein und fand im öffentlichen Bewußtsein nur allmählich Akzeptanz. Die Arbeit zeigt, in welchen Phasen der Nachkriegszeit welche Formen der Auseinandersetzung vorherrschend waren. Dabei werden die in den Texten immer wieder auftauchenden Sinnstiftungsangebote und Mythen in Bezug auf den Nationalsozialismus herausgestellt. 356 Seiten, broschiert (Epistemata.
