Cloth on spine rubbed at head and foot, horizontally torn in one spot and along spine edges, now repaired and book is in a protective acid neutral, removable acetate wrapper. Front hinge paper cracked & repaired, rear hinge fine. Brown endpapers. Vintage binder sticker on rear pastedown, 'Bound by Leighton Son and Hodge'. 212pp text plus a 48pp mini-book of other offerings by Chatto and Windus in rear. Good solid reading copy that displays OK on the shelf. Smith's wife arranged for this book to be written after his death, and only months before she passed herself, so neither party saw the final work.
