Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. 1st Edition. Ex Libris annotation. Mayor: An Autobiography (1984) by Edward I. Ed Koch with William Rauch is Koch s brash, candid memoir of his time as New York s mayor from 1978 to 1989. In it, he recounts steering the city through fiscal crisis, slashing taxes and payroll, confronting soaring crime and social unrest, and navigating through scandals all with his trademark wit and blunt self-confidence. He vividly depicts his bold leadership style and shameless ego, unapologetically evaluating his relationships with political figures like Carter, Cuomo, and Abzug, while also reflecting on his unsuccessful run for governor. The result is a deeply personal, outspoken account warts and all of the man behind the persona and the city he shaped .

Displaying his characteristic candor, wit, and outrageous frankness, Koch offers a behind-the-scenes account of how the political game is played, won, and sometimes lost. Edward Irving Koch ( December 12, 1924 - February 1, 2013) was an American politician, lawyer, political commentator, film critic, and television personality. He served in the United States House of Representatives from 1969 to 1977 and was mayor of New York City from 1978 to 1989. A popular figure, Koch rode the New York City Subway and stood at street corners greeting passersby with the slogan "How'm I doin'?" He was a lifelong bachelor, had no children and did not come out as gay during his lifetime. A 2022 New York Times article posthumously identified him as gay. Koch was first elected mayor of New York City in 1977, and he won reelection in 1981 with 75% of the vote. He was the first New York City mayor to win endorsement on both the Democratic and Republican party tickets. In 1985, Koch was elected to a third term with 78% of the vote. In the years following his mayoralty, Koch became a partner in the law firm of Robinson, Silverman, Pearce, Aronsohn, and Berman LLP and a commentator on politics, as well as reviewing movies and restaurants for newspapers, radio and television. He also became the judge on The People's Court (1997-99) following the retirement of Judge Wapner. Politics shows us the supreme urban political street fighter, battling his way from anonymity to national prominence. From a review found on-line: Edward Koch has done a remarkable job illustrating to the reader the true story behind politics in which he includes controversies such as the death penalty and gay rights among others. "Politics" depicts his rise and struggle in the game of politics stating that it is extremely important to understand our government and know our politics if we would like to better our surroundings; participation is key. This book was quite enjoyable to read because Edward Koch has a great sense of humor.
