Hans Glauber (San Candido 1933 - Bolzano 2008), noto come sociologo, ecologista e alpinista, tra la metà degli anni Sessanta e la metà dei Settanta svolse un'intensa attività come fotografo esponendo le sue opere in diverse istituzioni di prestigio. Numerose le mostre personali: dal Gewerbemusem di Zurigo nel 1965, alla Galerie nächst St. Stephan di Vienna (1969), dal Museo de Bellas Artes di Santiago del Cile alla Kunsthalle di Basel (1973) fino al Joanneum di Graz nel 1974. Autori di rilievo si confrontarono con la sua opera e scrissero di lui - tra di essi Theodor W. Adorno, Umberto Eco, Siegfried Giedion e Peter Gorsen. Fra il 1963 e il 1973 nascono circa 150 lavori fotografici con il titolo "Dalla città meccanica". Sono immagini che rappresentano visioni urbane e architettoniche, affascinanti e minacciose al contempo, di una vita determinata dalla tecnica. Le opere di Glauber si possono interpretare come rappresentazione, nello spirito di Adorno e Horkheimer, di un mondo che si va facendo sempre più ostile all'uomo. I lavori di Glauber prendono le mosse da fotografie di elementi meccanici delle macchine da scrivere e calcolatrici come quelle prodotte dall'Olivetti. Glauber sottopone queste fotografie a un complesso processo di solarizzazione, riconversione e collage. La fotografia di Glauber, pertanto, non è una semplice riproduzione fotografica delle cose, bensì genera la visione nel momento stesso della sua costruzione.
