Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Fair No dust jacket as issued. Condizione sovraccoperta: No Dust Jacket As Issued. First Edition. "Until a few years ago Winnipeg was deemed as one of the outer limits on the northern confines of this continent. The jumping off place, so to speak in the journey to discover the North Pole, and around and beyond it was nothing but a desert of snow for at least three-fourths of the year. The great 'New Empire,' of which it is the heart or pulse centre, was until lately deemed only a fit habitation for the buffalo and fur bearing animals, and was named by one of its explorers of less than half a century ago, 'The Great Lone Land.'" - p. 3. This work documents how very far Winnipeg had progressed since then. Eight pages of informative text are followed by 187 pages of magnificent, high-resolution historic photos of Winnipeg. Printed upon high-quality glossy stock. Undated but probably 1903, per Sloane, Roseneder & Hernandez 31. Both free endpapers loose but present bearing yellowed tape from earlier repairs. Prior owner's details upon front free endpaper. Two clippings from page 194. Tape repair to p. 17. Few pen marks to original olive cloth on front board. Binding tender but intact. A worthy example of this exceptionally detailed and informative snapshot of Winnipeg over one-hundred years ago.; Photography; Folio. Illustrated by Wm. A. Martel & Sons (illustratore).…
