The author was President of the Illinois Central Railroad at the time. Notes by Hon. John Wentworth. An appendix is provided with the Breese - Douglas Correspondence on the inception and origin of the Illinois-Central Railroad, and the origin of Names of the Stations on the Illinois-Central Railroad. Surprisingly, this book has never been read with the majority of pages un-cut. It is a fine, unread copy in bright, original wrappers.

He presented this as "A Paper Read Before the Chicago Historical Society, Tuesday Evening, February 20, 1883." Notes are by John Wentworth. "Also, An Appendix with the Breese-Douglas Correspondence on the Inception and Origin of the Illinois-Central Railroad, and the Origin of Names of Stations on the Illinois-Central Railroad." This is No. 23 of the Fergus Historical Series. The front inner wrapper and the rear wrapper print the titles of pamphlets in the Fergus Series Relating to Chicago and Illinois. OCLC records about ten locations under several accession numbers as of March 2025.
