Red Boards & Black Cloth. Condizione: Fine. No Jacket. First. Red Boards & Black Cloth. Fine/No Jacket. First. Hardback. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. ISBN:0-19-511593-7. 379 pages; Wolf is serious, analytical and a no mean critic of Vampire literature. ( One might say he warms to his cold-blooded subject, one well worth sinking our teeth in--etc.) He has compiled an anthology of 26 stories(some exerpts) into six classifications: The Classic Adventure Tale, The Psychological Vampire, The Science Fiction Vampire, The Non-Human Vampire, The Comic Vampire, The Heroic Vampire. Wolf's ten page Introduction is an excellent summary of what has been going on in vampire fiction since 1897, when Bram Stoker's "Dracula" emerged from his sarcophagus. Stoker's character's influence has never been equaled, says Wolf, though better writer's have often tried. "Here, then, is.a collection of vampire tales written in the century following Bram Stoker's "Dracula." Sometimes the tales are grotesque, sometimes sublime. .The startling variety of the stories gathered here is proof of the paradox that, though Stoker's fictional vampire could cast no shadow, his literary shadow hovers over all the tales in the book. Who'd have thought the old man had so much blood in him?" Book condition: the front fly (blank) has a larger corner clip.
