Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Das NS-Regime hat zunächst Deutschland und während des Krieges auch die besetzten Länder Europas mit einem Netz von Lagern überzogen. Mehrere Millionen Menschen sind in den Lagern der SS und der Wehrmacht ermordet worden oder durch Vernachlässigung umgekommen, Zehntausende haben auch die Lager und Gefängnisse der Polizei und der Justiz nicht überlebt. An manchen dieser Orte wurden direkt nach der Befreiung vom Nationalsozialismus Gedenkstätten geschaffen, zum Beispiel in Auschwitz und Bergen-Belsen. Viele wurden über Jahrzehnte anderweitig genutzt. Die Landschaften der historischen Orte der NS-Verbrechen waren unterschiedlichen Entwicklungen ausgesetzt. In vielen Fällen war das Verschleiern der historischen Ereignisse so wie das Unsichtbarmachen der Lager ein Anliegen derselben Eliten, die während der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus das Lagersystem betrieben oder gefördert hatten. Die in diesem Band enthaltenen Beiträge behandeln die Landschaften vier solcher Orte: die der Konzentrationslager Bergen-Belsen, Esterwegen und Majdanek sowie die des Gefangenenlagers Falstad in Norwegen. Es wird die historische Entwicklung dieser Landschaften seit 1945 dargestellt und erörtert. Damit sollen auch Erkenntnisse darüber vermittelt werden, wodurch Landschaftsarchitektur das Gedächtnis solcher Landschaften heute entschlüsseln kann, wie die noch vorhandenen Gedächtnisinhalte in ein intelligentes System der Anschauung integriert werden können und wie nicht zuletzt diese Landschaften zur Würdigung und zum Gedenken an die Opfer beitragen können.
