This book explores the early history of the colonial postal system in the United States, shedding light on its evolution from its rudimentary beginnings in the 17th century to the establishment of a royal intercolonial post under Queen Anne's Act of 1710. Drawing on a wealth of primary sources, the author delves into the challenges and successes faced by early postal pioneers as they sought to connect the disparate colonies and facilitate communication across vast distances. The book examines the role of individuals, the influence of government policies, and the impact of technological advancements on the development of the postal system. By tracing the interplay between these factors, the author uncovers the broader historical context and thematic depth surrounding the establishment of this essential service in the American colonies. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Diagonal cut on left edge: top edge measures 2 1/2"; bottom edge measures 3." Signature is very clean and intact. Card is very clean and intact except for slight age toning and a small tipped-in piece of paper and brief pencil inscriptions on back. A Very Good copy. Mary E. Woolley (1863-1947) was an American professor, educational reformer, and suffragist. Woolley was the first female student to attend Brown University and also served as the 11th president of Mount Holyoke College from 1900-1937. She began her teaching career at Wellesley College in 1895. Woolley was a pioneer in the field of pedagogy and advocated for intellectual female education at a time when women's education was limited to the domestic sphere. She worked to dispel negative stereotypes of female students such as the notion that they had an inherent learning disability and that intellectual education was harmful to their health.
