Pamphlet. Post card, [14cm/5.5 inches by 21.5cm/8.5inches], Artist's Statement: My current studio work is involved with hard edges, basic shapes, rich color and painted paper collage. In the year 1984 my works moved from a textured surface covered with a mixture of wet rich colors activated by controlled water spray. Slowly over the years since 1984 the works have become tighter. Although the works may appear to have been completely thought out from the outset, they are far from it. I begin with a blank sheet with no idea of where it will go. I never do a preliminary sketch regarding my abstract work. As I move along I certainly make design decisions and I'll use any tool to facilitate drawing. Most have rag paper as a support others have a canvas support, and most are completed with gouache; some with acrylic. Once a week I work on location doing representational works in transparent watercolor. In these works I do begin with a concept of what I want to capture in the scene before me. I also do still life works in the studio. Occasionally I will work with pastels in and out of the studio.Why do I work this way? I find it interesting to be challenged in different ways. I live in a place that lures you to be outside and I enjoy the break from the studio. To work in the same manner daily simply would not work for me because art to me is an exploration, a searching for something that is intangible. My disappointments are ongoing while at the same time my goals go higher reaching for something that seems just beyond my grasp. If I could "just do it", the question is: Would I?
