Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. This study is part of a larger project on the primacy of adequacy in the philosophical thought of Duns Scotus. It offers, together with a critical edition, the first attempt at an overall interpretation of the Quaestio de cognitione Dei attributed to Duns Scotus a text famous for its enhancement of Scotuss conception of metaphysics with the systematic distinction between metaphysics as a science in itself and for us. In line with the theory of science in the Lectura Parisiensis, in which Duns Scotus casts theology as a strictly demonstrative science in the present state (a scientia propter quid nobis), the Quaestio de cognitione Dei is seen to demand that the same be allowed for metaphysics as well its conception of metaphysics as a scientia in se distinct from theology hence critically amends Scotuss conception of metaphysics. This criticism not only shows that the Quaestio de cognitione Dei is wrongly attributed to Duns Scotus and is rather to be situated in the innerfranciscan debate on his Parisian theory of science in the second decade of the 14th century in the direct environment of John of Reading, whose texts resonate in the Quaestio de cognitione Dei. This criticism also incites further investigation into the singular character of Scotuss Parisian conception of science as well as a reconsideration of the traditional interpretation of his metaphysics, prey to the systematic inconsistency the Quaestio de cognitione Dei denounces. Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - When John Duns Scotus arrived at the University of Paris in 1302 he came face to face with a vibrant intellectual community. Every religious order seemed to have a significant thinker active, such as Hervaus Natalis for the Dominicans and Gerard of Bologna for the Carmelites, and the secular theologians were represented by no less than Godfrey of Fontaines. The present volume builds upon previous scholarship on Duns Scotus' Parisian experience by investigating his interactions with his contemporaries at the university rather than on his doctrine in isolation. This new perspective is greatly enhanced by a plethora of texts edited herein for the first time, including Duns Scotus' debate with Godfrey of Fontaines and various quaestiones by Jean de Pouilly, Gonsalvus Hispanus, and Alexander of Alessandria. Contributors are William J. Courtenay, Stephen D. Dumont, Marina Fedeli, Wouter Goris, Hernán Guerrero Troncoso, Timothy B. Noone (+), Mikolaj Olszewski, Alessandro de Pascalis, Christian Rode, Witold Grzegorz Salamon, Chris Schabel, and Garrett R. Smith.…

Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Absolute Beginners adopts a variety of approaches to study the Absolute as the ultimate source of knowledge in medieval philosophy. From a historical perspective, it examines a forerunner of Spinoza's departure from the Absolute in the Ethics: the doctrine of God as a first object in the generation of knowledge, as formulated by Henry of Ghent (+1293) and Richard Conington (+1330). Methodologically, it offers a case-study in the construction of an historical object, calling into question the self-evident and spontaneous way in which elements in the history of philosophy - its concepts and theories - are presented as primary givens. In a systematic sense, this study includes a reflection on structural indeterminacy, as pervading and stabilizing the differential system of exclusions which makes up the doctrine of God as a first object in the generation of knowledge.…

Buch. Condizione: Neu. Comenius fostered pansophic, all-encompassing thinking in philosophy, theology, history, politics and education. That is why today, in an age of increased globalisation, his works are the subject of renewed interest. Twenty-nine authors from eight countries, dedicated to this task, develop the picture of a great European thinker.…

Hardcover. Condizione: As New. Leichte Kratzer / Abnutzungen / Druckstellen. This study attempts a reconstruction of the philosophy of the unfinished Opus tripartitum of Meister Eckhart. One new feature is the 'hermeneutic approach' to the question of Eckhart's philosophy, another is the recognition that the concept of Unity plays a decisive role in the organisation of his metaphysics, to the extent, indeed, that one can speak of a metaphysics of the One. Eckhart's metaphysics is determined to a contemplation of the divine, which in this thinking of Unity is understood as the principle and end of all things. Yet, at the same time Eckhart's thinking of Unity marks the boundaries of the ratio naturalis . In this way his thought combines a supreme trust in the effectivity of reason with a negative theology of the purest sort. By a systematic reading of linked texts of Meister Eckhart the trail of his philosophy of the One is followed down into the German sermons.…
