JR.C. Purchased at Sotheby's, 1970. H.elt". Dr. W. Laidlaw Purves (1842-1917) was a Scottish born surgeon, who worked in London as an aural and opthalmic s…urgeon, and was better known for his numerous contributions to golf, which included being Captain of the Royal Wimbledon Golf Club. He also designed and supervised the laying out of the Royal St. George Golf Club, as well as being an active supporter of women's golf. This is the second book in the series of three, although it can stand on its own. [8], 373pp, [11 pages of advertisements in the back], printed on laid paper, bound in full leather that has been re-backed, new endpapers, binding and hinges tight Lacking the map, pages 212 and 295 are correctly numbered, with the Publisher's notice on the verso of the last leaf of the Preface, for the 4th Edition of "Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe", as well as "Farther" on the recto of leaf B1. Includes a title vignette, decorative initials, along with head and tail-pieces. The covers show corner loss, lacking pieces of the leather. The title page is darkened, occasional soiling to pages.
