Soft cover. Condizione: Good. No Jacket. Near East Panorama by Glora M. Wysner was published by the Friendship Press, New York, in 1950. Not an ex-library copy, this 181-page, 64-year-old, 5" X 8", Signed paperback offering is in just G- condition. Somewhere along the line, this offering was the recipient of some pretty rough handling or a ton of use. There is very noticeable separation between the reverse side of the front cover and the main Title Page, and between pages 88-89. Modest yellowing of text's pages is observed, and there is a fairly good deal of spotty/random underlining(the lion's share in pencil) on a number of same. Modest shelf wear is seen, most noticeably, at top and bottom edges, and less so, along the vertical edges of the book's spine. The book is SIGNED on the left side of the middle-third portion of the main Title Page. Aside from condition, this is a look back to the various peoples and conditions and attitudes of the countries of the Middle East, post-World War II, by the author, who had spent a significant portion of her adult life in the region as a missionary of the Methodist church. The book is presented in six chapters: "Our Neighbors in the Near East", "Oriental Carpet", "The Cradle of Monotheism", "Political and Economic Life", "Learning and Living Amid Unrest", and "Bridges into the Future". The lovely, black and white Chapter Decorations, and 5-6 additional Drawings throughout this volume are the contribution of one Philip J. Aziz. Also included are Contents Pages, Appendices(Gazetteer, Glossary, Historical Chart of the Eastern Churches, Organizations Doing Near Eastern Work, and A Selected Reading List), and, finally, an Index(from "Abraham" to "Zoroastrianism"). In preparation for doing this I read fairly large portions of this offering, and came away with the notion that very little has actually changed regarding the American view/opinion of the Middle East--we had no accurate comprehension of it then, any more than we really do today! This was/is one person's honest, hopeful attempt to present the region, warts and all, as a worthy, valuable, but unbelievably complex part of our world community which simply cannot be ignored. Thank you!! Signed by Author(s).

Privately Printed, New York, NY 1945. First Edition. 1st Printing. 223 pages. Nice Firm Clean copy ! Size: 8vo. One of the very first statements heard in a discussion of the Kabyle people who live in the Djurdjura mountains of Algeria, North Africa, is that they are a people whose cultural patterns have remained static for centuries. Writers who have described them say that they have not changed since the beginning of historic time. Social Sciences History::Localities History::Africa 5947.
