Small 8vo; black cloth/leatherette boards with gilt series… title to spine; publisher's seal and a calligraphic leaf at front; vertical right-to-left setting. Usually translated "Treatise on Establishing Consciousness-Only." It's Xuanzang's 7th-century Yogacara classic synthesizing Indian commentaries on Vasubandhu's Thirty Verses. The work is the Yogacara classic traditionally attributed to Xuanzang (Hsuan-tsang), here issued as part of Japan's influential pre-war collected Buddhist series. Condition: Very Good, light rubbing and a few small spots to boards; mild toning to edges consistent with age; text block clean and tight; discreet prior owner date ("3-20-92") and faint stamp on a rear blank.

The edition reproduces the original 1931 Bukkyo Taikei text line-for-line and includes the same classical commentarial sequence: Main Text, Jutsuki commentary, Shuyo digest, Ryogido "Lamp of Complete Meaning," Enpi "Elucidation of the Esoteric Meaning." Bound in sturdy black textured boards with gilt title, this printing retains the clean typography and scholarly layout of the Bukkyo Taikei canonical editions. Includes a calligraphic presentation leaf bearing a Buddhist seal and inscription reading: "Written by Jizokai of the Song lineage - Kosei," likely a ceremonial or temple dedication inscription. Condition: Very Good. Tight binding, clean pages with minimal foxing to preliminaries. Slight edgewear to boards and faint owner inscription dated 3.20.92 on rear endpaper. A handsome, solid educational reprint preserving a major East Asian Buddhist philosophical text. Vasubandhu (ca. 4th-5th century CE) was a foundational philosopher of the Mahayana Yogacara or "Consciousness-Only" school, known for synthesizing Indian Buddhist psychology and metaphysics. His Cheng Weishi Lun ("Treatise on the Establishment of Consciousness-Only"), expanded by Xuanzang during the Tang dynasty, became a cornerstone of East Asian scholastic Buddhism, profoundly influencing Chinese, Japanese, and Korean Buddhist thought.
