Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga is an outcome of a long cherished desire and academic dream of the people of Mithila, with its headquarter at Darbhanga, carving out colleges of Darbhanga and Kosi Divisions, from the then two Universities namely Bihar and Bhagalpur respectively. It was established through an Ordinance in the year 1972. It has been renamed as Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga in the year 1996.
