Her name was Tsumakichi and one morning she awoke to discover her step-father was going through their home beheading everyone in the household with a samurai sword, and concluded by lopping off both her arms. She was only 17. But she went on to become nationally known as a painter and poet who held her painting or writing brushes in her teeth.
