Cet article o…ccupe les pages 589-592. Il est le complément de la publication faite par Yersin l'année précédente. Yersin, après avoir découvert le microbe de la peste, a mis au point avec ses collègues et amis de l'Institut Pasteur de Paris, un sérum pour combattre cette affection. Cette note a pour but "de démontrer la possibilité d'immuniser les animaux contre la peste, et de guérir ceux qui sont déjà atteints mortellement par cette maladie". Les auteurs rapportent les résultats satisfaisants des différentes expérimentations animales réalisées, à titre préventif et à titre thérapeutique. Therapy : Therapeutic approaches to cure plague infected patients were again made by Yersin, Calmette and Borrel by using serum of vaccinated rabbits to cure infected animals (Yersin et al., 1895; Kupferschmidt, 1993, p. 151f)."; Butler T: Plague history: Yersin's discovery of the causative bacterium in 1894 enabled, in the subsequent century, scientific progress in understanding the disease and the development of treatments and vaccines, Clin Microbiol Infect, 2014,20(3):202-209: "Eventually, against the odds, Yersin took the prize of finding the cause of plague. His descriptions were accurate and consistent. Also, Yersin's reputation benefited from his links with colleagues in Paris. During his first autopsy in Hong Kong, he related his method of obtaining fluid from the bubo, seeing Gram-negative bacilli, injecting animals that he observed to die with bacteria in their tissues, and sealing a bubo specimen in a glass tube that was immediately mailed to Paris. These specimens were received by Albert Calmette and Amedee Borrel, both destined to be famous for, respectively, a tuberculosis vaccine and the name of the cause of Lyme disease, who confirmed Yersin's findings and carried out research with the bacteria to produce a therapeutic antiserum. In 1895, the last year of Louis Pasteur's life, Yersin returned to Paris to collaborate with his associates in Pasteur's laboratories. Le bactériologiste franco-suisse A…lexandre Yersin (1863-1943), surtout célèbre pour sa découverte du bacille de la peste, s'était installé en 1894 à Nha-Trang dans le Sud-Annam, où il créa l'Institut Pasteur de Nha-Trang en 1895. A partir de 1898, il s'intéressa de plus en plus à la culture d'hévéa (pour soutenir ses productions pharmaceutiques), et surtout de quinquina, la quinine qu'on en extrait servant à combattre le paludisme.
