Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. This book analyzes the exceptional normative impact of R. Meir Simcha Hacohen's Biblical commentary, Meshekh Hokhmah, and his halakhic commentary, Or Sameah. It examines the reliance of the poskim on R. Meir Simcha's innovations and hermeneutic methods as well as their view of his interpretations that broadened or narrowed the scope of Maimonides' rulings. The book explores the broad-based judicial principles underlying R. Meir Simcha's legal decisions and approach to Jewish law. It further examines how his legal creativity was impacted by metahalakhic principles that guided him in addressing changing historical and social realities. The book also considers R. Meir Simcha's unique attitudes toward gentiles. His approach attests to his innovativeness and his halakhic moderation, as he tried to rule as leniently as possible on matters concerning non-Jews. In this book, R. Meir Simcha is shown to be a truly influential rabbi whose contributions will long be a source of study and discussion. Analyzes the exceptional normative impact of R. Meir Simcha Hacohen's Biblical commentary, Meshekh Hokhmah, and his halakhic commentary, Or Sameah. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardback. Condizione: New. In the State of Israel, the unique family law derives from ancient Jewish law, halakhic traditions, and an extensive legal tradition spanning many centuries and geographic locations. This book examines Israeli family law in comparison with the corresponding law in the United States and illuminates common issues in legal systems worldwide. The Israeli system is primarily controlled by the religious law of the parties. Thus, religious courts were also established and granted enforcement powers equivalent to those of the civil courts. This is a complex situation because the religious law applied in these courts is not always consistent with gender equality and civil rights practiced in civil court. This book seeks to clarify that tension and offer solutions. The comprehensive analysis in this book may serve as a guide for those interested in family law: civil court judges, rabbinical court judges, lawyers, mediators, arbitrators, and families themselves. Topics central to the book include issues subject to modification, the right of a minor to independent status, extramarital relationships, and joint property.

Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. In Hebrew.216, (4) pages. 205 x 140 mm. Isaac Fernhof (1866 Buczacz - February 23, 1919 Stanislav) was a journalist and writer who wrote in Hebrew, Yiddish and German. He was born to Chaya (nee Fliegler) and to Israel. At the age 7 his mother died, his father remarried and Isaac moved in with his mother's brother. He earned a living by giving private lessons in Hebrew and wrote in his spare time. He published in many periodicals, and attempted to establish, with friends, and edited, several periodicals. After his marriage he became a flour merchant and ran his father-in-law's flour mill and warehouse. In Buczacz, Frenhof founded a literary journal called "Sifrey Sha'ashuim" which was published in a number of issues, and had an influence on a small circle of Hebrew readers in Galicia. On its pages appeared, among others, some of Shaul Tchernichovsky's first poems, a treatise on Hasidism by Micha Joseph Berdichevsky, works by Brainin, and translations by Joseph Klausner. Frenhof became a teacher at the Baron Hirsch School, in Zloczow and later in Stanislaw. "Sefer Hamitnagdim" is his major work. The original manuscript of the book was lost in the offices of HaOlam in Moscow during the Civil War after the October Revolution, and was restored, based on the drafts that survived, by his son Willy (William). Unlike the Hasidim and Hasidism, which many writers have described, this work was the first Hebrew book written in a literary and analytical fashion about the mitnagdim. During the pogroms in the Ukraine in 1917, Frenhof fled with his family to Vienna. After the pogroms, Frenhof left his family in Vienna and returned to teach in Stanislaw, where he fell ill, dying of typhus. It was Frenhof who first coined the term " State of Israel." Herzl's name was Judenstaat, which all translated as The Jewish State or The State of the Jews. He predicted, something that was by no means a foregone conclusion, that Israel's official language would be Hebrew, and that its anthem would be Imber's Hatikva.
