Aggiungi al carrelloWith the complexity of the family Phyllidiidae and the problems of identification in the Indo-West Pacific, the story of the Red Sea species continues to unfold. One new species and one new record are added to the Red Sea fauna, both belonging to the genus Phyllidiella. Phyllidiella amphitrite sp. nov. is described from a single… specimen from the northern Red Sea and clearly differs from all species of Phyllidiella in having pale yellow pigment on the tubercles. Phyllidiella zeylanica is newly recorded from the Red Sea with five specimen records and several photographed individuals; other than this, it has a western Indian Ocean distribution. Phyllidia schupporum was collected for the first time since its original description; because its distribution is now extended to the Persian Gulf, it is no longer considered endemic to the Red Sea. The distribution of the Red Sea endemic Phyllidia dautzenbergi is extended northwards to Hurghada, Egypt. A small specimen of the endemic Phyllidiopsis sinaiensis was found at 214237 m depth just at the mouth of the Red Sea, which is a bathymetrical range extension from its previous shallow coral reef records. The identifications of other species are revisited. A new species of Paradoris is described as Paradoris hypocrita sp. nov., differing from the well-known but localised West Pacific P. liturata which also resembles a phyllidiid. This new species was recorded many years ago by published photographs, and it is relatively common in the Red Sea, evidenced by several specimens and additional photographs. It is described herein, and is considered a Red Sea endemic, differing from both the unnamed Indian Ocean species and the named Pacific species. 34 pp., 34 figs, gr. 8 [16.5 x 23.7 cm].

Aggiungi al carrelloThis is the fifth publication describing species of sea slug heterobranchs, originally based on collections from the Red Sea by the author on four expeditions carried out in 1983 and 1990, with the addition of specimens subsequently collected by underwater photographers who were stimulated by the book "Sea Slugs of the Red Sea".… So much material has been amassed that only the new species and new Red Sea records of chromodorids are described in this paper, with an appendix listing specimens of previously recorded species. Three new species are described in detail and illustrated, belonging to three different genera: Doriprismatica kyanomarginata sp. n., Glossodoris kahlbrocki sp. n., and Goniobranchus pseudodecorus sp. n. One western Pacific species is recorded for the first time in the Red Sea, Goniobranchus collingwoodi (Rudman, 1987). The nomenclature of Verconia sudanica is discussed and stabilised. 34 pp., 16 figs, gr. 8.

Aggiungi al carrelloSeventy species of opisthobranchs are described in this work based on collections from the Persian Gulf, Socotra, Kenya, Zanzibar, Madagascar, La Réunion, Mauritius, the Seychelles, the Maldives, and Sri Lanka. Ten species are newly recorded from the western Indian Ocean and four species are recorded in the scientific literature… for the first time since their original descriptions. Two species are described as new: Cyerce bourbonica sp. n. from La Réunion and Doriopsilla nigrocera sp. n. from the Persian Gulf coast of Saudi Arabia. Chromodoris cavae is removed from its synonymy with Chromodoris tennentana and redescribed from specimens from La Réunion, while several new synonyms are proposed for some commonly occurring species. Risbecia bullockii is recorded for the second time from the Indian Ocean and assigned to its correct genus. 129 pp., 79 col. figs, br. gr. 8 [16.3 x 23.7 cm].

Dr. Nathalie Yonow has been studying opisthobranchs for over 20 years, following an obsession with marine biology since a child living in Iran, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Greece, and Wales. She earned both her B.Sc. and Ph.D. in Swansea University (Wales, United Kingdom). Nathalie Yonow has since been invited on a number of expeditions collecting opisthobranchs from the Red Sea, Mauritius, and the Maldives, as well as being given other Indo-Pacific collections to identify - Ambon, Chagos, Socotra, Re'union, and the Persian Gulf. These form the substance of many publications, and are still ongoing research.
