Sin embargo, con el tiempo, Ceferino se adapta, trabaja en una tienda de ultramarinos, se casa con una mujer indígena de la sierra de Puebla y forma una familia, logrando integrarse plenamente en la sociedad mexicana. La novela, escrita con un estilo satírico y lleno de humor, refleja las tensiones y similitudes entre las culturas española y mexicana.
