Softcover. Condizione: Very Good. First edition. Cover and interior portrait of then-president Ramon Magsaysay, "The Nation's Number 1 Citizen." Tall octavo. 136pp. Glossy wrappers. Modest general wear and a light spine crease near the crown, a bit of foxing at the upper joint and first and last pages tanned, a nice very good copy in a tanned, fair dust jacket lacking the spine and split at the upper flap fold. Copy 359 of a reported 5,000 copies printed, Signed by Yuzon on the limitation page. Nicely Inscribed to Irish essayist and translator Arland Ussher using the entirety of the first page. Laid in is what appears to be a draft or carbon copy of a 1958 from Ussher to Yuzon, in which he describes his work, and compliments Yuzon's poems, saying "I appreciate their generous spirit and manly tone, and they have excited in me a new interest and curiosity concerning your country." The book's poems are separated into sections: "Nationalism and Social Justice," "Struggles Libertarian," and "Country and Democracy." Amado M. Yuzon was a poet of some renown and, among other things served as a Filipino Congressman in the late 1940s and translated the work of many famous authors into Filipino. An interesting association.
