Softcover. Condizione: g to vg. Reprint. 1/800. Folio (12 1/2 x 8 1/4"). xii, 65, [7]pp (Text), [1], li (51) leaves (Plates) (Vol. 1); xii, 138, [2]pp (Text), lxxxvii (87) leaves (Plates) (Vol. 2); x, 94, [4]pp (Text), lvii (57) leaves (Plates) (Vol. 3). Original printed wrappers. Splendidly illustrated throughout with 127 in-text figs, and 195 b/w photographic plates, this work is a limited re-edition of Professor Selim Hassan's 3-vol. monograph on the mastabas of Ancient Egypt. "A mastaba (meaning "house for eternity" or "eternal house" in Ancient Egyptian) is a type of ancient Egyptian tomb in the form of a flat-roofed, rectangular structure with inward sloping sides, constructed out of mud-bricks (from the Nile River). These edifices marked the burial sites of many eminent Egyptians during Egypt's Early Dynastic Period and Old Kingdom. In the Old Kingdom epoch, local kings began to be buried in pyramids instead of in mastabas, although non-royal use of mastabas continued for over a thousand years. Egyptologists call these tombs mastaba, which is the Arabic word for "stone bench." (From Wikipedia). Each of the three volumes has been printed in a limited edition of 800 unnumbered copies. Moderate shelf-wear and soiling to wrappers. Previous owner's Ex-libris on inside of front cover (J. Bisno). Wrappers in overall good- to good, interior in very good condition. About the author: Selim Hassan (1867-1961) was an Egyptian Egyptologist. He wrote the 16-volume Encyclopedia of Ancient Egypt in Arabic and supervised the excavation of many ancient Egyptian tombs under the auspices of Cairo University.

Soft cover. Condizione: Good. Complete 3-Volume set. Each volume is a small folio (approx. 8.25 inches x 12.50 inches tall) paperback with clean and securely bound contents, including several fold-outs. Vol. I contains 52 pages of text (English and Hieroglyphics) with 25 figures and 51 plates; Vol. II has 138 text pages with 59 figures and 87 plates; and Vol. III has 94 pages of text with 43 figures and 57 plates. Vol. I has a 2.5 inch fore edge tear and related creases on the title page. The wrapper has also pulled away from the spine except at the rear edge, and has a bit of erosion in the spine Tail. Vol. II has a significant spine slant and a partial spine crease or wrinkle. Vol. III has some largely cosmetic damage to the spine. More specifically, an inch of the wrapper is missing at the bottom of the spine, perhaps as as result of gnawing. Once again, however, all wear does not affect the contents which appear clean, complete and fully legible. NOT an ex-library copy! **Extra charges may be requested to cover postage costs on an expedited and/or international order because of the size and weight of this 3-volume set.
