An early and increasingly collectible biography of Ian Fleming published during the height of the original James Bond phenomenon and in the year following Fleming's death. Henry A. Zeiger traces Fleming's career as a Reuters correspondent, wartime Naval Intelligence officer, and creator of James Bond, drawing connections between Fleming's real-world intelligence experiences and the fictional world of 007. The volume includes numerous period photographs, including images of Fleming with producers Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli, Sean Connery-era film production material, and other contemporary Bond-related illustrations. As one of the earliest book-length biographies of Fleming, it offers a valuable snapshot of how the author and Bond franchise were viewed in the mid-1960s. Condition: Book: Very Good overall. Sound binding, clean text, and attractive blue-and-gold cloth boards. Ex-library with significant provenance: Library of Congress 'Surplus Duplicate' stamp; subsequent military library ownership from the Western Library Service Center, Hamilton Air Force Base, California, with withdrawn markings and pocket. Library markings have been partially obscured but remain visible. Includes original laid-in 1966 National Library Week bookmark/calendar and reading card, uncommon survivals that enhance its institutional history. Small ink notation to rear endpaper, scattered library stamps, and minor offsetting from old tape. Dust jacket: Good+, unclipped ($3.95), housed in an older protective cover; shows edge wear, rubbing, small chips at spine ends, library call-label remnants, and tape shadows on flaps. Despite library history, the book remains a desirable collectible copy because it is a stated first edition in jacket with interesting governmental and military-library provenance. Stated First Edition on copyright page. First printing of the first American edition published in 1965 by Duell, Sloan and Pearce. Original unclipped dust jacket present with correct $3.95 price.
