CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: Here published are the wartime memoirs of Guido Zembsch-Shreve; a remarkable man whose story is inspiring. He first evades the Nazi invasion of his homeland, Belgium, through France to the south coast and across the Pyrenees into Spain and Portugal and on to Canada. There he joined the exile Belgian Army as a private; later he volunteered for the commandos. After training and a small raid to the Channel island of Sark, the author had a whole new set of high-adventures. Recruited by the famed Special Operations Executive and trained in clandestine warfare, he and a wireless operator parachuted, in the summer of 1943, into occupied NW Europe. Here he recruited agents and set up escape lines for SOE agents and evading RAF flyers. Betrayed in Paris, tortured by the Germans, sent first to Buchenwald and next to the infamous Dora camp, where the V-2 rockets were being made, and sabotaged, by slave laborers. Due to the rocket's high malfunction rate, the prisoners were made to suffer greatly. Mr. Schreve survived the war and while in his eighties, I had the opportunity to interview him. This copy of Pierre Leland was given to me by Mr. Schreve following that; a memorable interview for which I am grateful. I only now am passing on, in my senior years, this momento along to another enthusiast to enjoy, care for, and pass on to the future. A remarkable WWII hero's life story, well led and well told.…
