This set includes a complete set of fourteen 12" x 7". 30 x 17 cm. picture cards created to be used with the chart. The cards have writing in crayon and ink on them, but are not bent or folded in any way. A unit set of basic primer cards is also included. The cards are contained in a blue cloth box with a yellow label on the cover. An index inside the lid of the box gives a list of the included word and phrase cards. There are 158 word cards and 103 phrase cards. Also included is the original bill of sale. Zerna Sharp was the reading consultant and editor with Scott, Foresman and Company who named and created the characters of "Dick" and "Jane". Sharp chose and edited the stories, and managed the development of the hit series. Meanwhile, illustrator Eleanor B. Campbell contributed the majority of the artwork. The pairing of large, repetitive words and giant pictures allowed young children to easily see the book from the back of the room. Educators and youngsters alike must recognized the value because the Dick and Jane series went on to dominate the early learning market for the next four decades. This edition contains seven stories from "We Look and See", a pre-primer for basic readers. Dick, Jane, Spot the Dog, Puff the Cat, Tim the Teddy Bear and Baby (the early 1930s name for "Sally") all make appearances. This extremely rare complete set, even including the bill sale, was once a standard part of an early education experience for children and educators alike. Although the illustrations are a bit dated, it is still eye catching and would work effectively for its original purpose today. A great addition to a collection based on education or nostalgia. Please note that this set is oversized and very heavy. Additional shipping charges will apply.
