Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. Contemporary events have shown that buildings designed to modern day codes need to be able to resist accidental extreme actions such as impact, explosions, weather, chemical and seismic events. This is one of the reasons for the present reviewing of the Eurocodes used to design concrete structures. The definition of the use of concrete used in extreme environments is difficult, but extreme events are usually defined as those rare events which occur at the extreme ends of the statistical distribution in a particular situation. Often the clients who order the concrete structures are unable to determine the extremes of environments the concrete will encounter and rely on the designers and construction companies to be able to predict the service conditions.Consequently, for the professionals who have an interest in the design, manufacture and constructional use of concrete in extreme environments the chapters in the book will be extremely useful as they describe actual experiences of concrete at the extreme limits of the unusual environments. Concrete is composed of a range of materials and by including additional chemicals concrete's performance can be extended. Initially the designer must address the environment into which the concrete is introduced. An area of concern is where the design team is not able to access expertise of other disciplines and then may readjust their existing parameters on a predictive rather than a scientific basis. To help increase access to a range of experiences, the chapters in the book have covered areas such as recognising severe environments, construction materials failures with concrete in extreme environments, high cycle fatigue of concrete structures, in harsh environments both in design and monitoring, corrosion parameters in a buried pilot nuclear waste container, effects of extreme environments on concrete dams, models for prediction of chloride ingress in concrete exposed to de-icing salts, reactions of cements in geothermal walls and cements reactions in biogenic environments. Contemporary events have shown that buildings designed to modern day codes need to be able to resist accidental extreme actions such as impact, explosions, weather, chemical and seismic events. Today's buildings must withstand far more than everyday wear and tear from accidental impacts and explosions to extreme weather, chemical exposure, and seismic events. As the demands on structures grow, so does the need for reliable, science-based guidance on designing concrete that can endure these challenges. This book brings together real-world insights from experts working at the forefront of concrete performance in extreme conditions. It highlights what happens when materials are pushed beyond conventional expectations and offers practical knowledge for designers, engineers, and construction professionals who must ensure long-term safety and durability.Key points:Includes accounts of concrete in severe environments, showing how it behaves under rare and extreme conditions.Provides clear explanations of why material failures occur.Gives expert guidance on designing and monitoring concrete structures exposed to fatigue, corrosion, de-icing salts, buried environments, geothermal conditions, and biogenic reactions.Plenty of case studies from nuclear waste storage to large dams, offering lessons that can be applied across a wide range of projects.By combining scientific understanding with professional experience, this book provides a practical resource for anyone involved in creating concrete structures that must stand up to the unexpected.

Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. Advanced Concrete Technology A thorough grounding in the science of concrete combined with the latest developments in the rapidly evolving field of concrete technology In the newly revised second edition of Advanced Concrete Technology, a distinguished team of academics and engineers delivers a state-of-the-art exploration of modern and advanced concrete technologies developed during the last decade. The book combines the essential concepts and theory of concrete with practical examples of material design, composition, processing, characterization, properties, and performance. The authors explain, in detail, the hardware and software of concrete, and offer readers discussions of the most recent advances in concrete technology, including, but not limited to, concrete recycling, nanotechnology, microstructural simulation, additive manufacturing, and non-destructive testing methods. This newest edition of Advanced Concrete Technology provides a sustained emphasis on sustainable and novel technologies, like new binders, 3D printing, and other advanced materials and techniques. Readers will also find: A thorough introduction to concrete, including its definition and its historical evolution as a material used in engineering and constructionIn-depth explorations of the materials for making concrete and the properties of fresh concreteComprehensive discussions of the material structure of concrete, hardened concrete, and advanced cementitious compositesFulsome treatments of concrete fracture mechanics, non-destructive testing in concrete engineering, and future trends in concrete Perfect for undergraduate and graduate students studying civil or materials engineeringespecially those taking classes in the properties of concrete or concrete technologiesas well as engineers in the concrete industry. Advanced Concrete Technology, 2nd Edition will also earn a place in the libraries of civil and materials engineers working in the industry.
