In deze serie presenteren enkele van de belangrijkste Duitse fotografen uit het interbellum en presenteert het naakt als artistiek, esthetisch en anatomisch studieobject. De afbeeldingen zijn uitgevoerd in hoogwaardige koperdiepdruk (heliogravure), een techniek met mooie toonrijkdom en detailweergave.De uitgave verscheen in 1940, in een periode waarin artistieke fotografie in Duitsland sterk werd beïnvloed door de idealen van lichamelijke schoonheid, gezondheid en classicisme. Hoewel het werk binnen het culturele klimaat van het Derde Rijk ontstond, is het geen expliciete propagandapublicatie.
