Tegenwoordig wordt de Russische schrijve…r Daniil Charms erkend als een van de groten van de absurdistische literatuur. In zijn vaderland was hij tot voor kort verboden, een deel van zijn werk is verloren gegaan. Onlangs zijn een aantal dagboeken en brieven gevonden. Zij geven een onthullend beeld van een schrijver die niet alleen in zijn proza, maar ook in het dagelijks leven werd aangetrokken door het absurde. Hij schrijft openhartig over zijn seksuele verlangens, zijn verhouding met zijn ex-vrouw en zijn vriendinnen, over zijn angst voor arrestatie en ondergang. Daniil Charms (1905-1942) was een van de oprichters van de avant-gardegroepering Oberioe, wat staat voor 'Vereniging voor re?le kunst' (1927-1929). Eind 1931 werd hij gearresteerd en verbannen naar Koersk. In 1932 keerde hij terug naar Leningrad, waar hij in zijn onderhoud voorzag met het schrijven van verhalen en gedichten voor kinderen. In de herfst van 1941, tijdens het beleg van Leningrad, werd Charms opnieuw gearresteerd. Hij werd krankzinnig verklaard en naar een psychiatrische inrichting gestuurd waar hij in 1942 omkwam. ; Goed/zeer goed.
